EVALUATING GUIDELINES FOR SABBATICAL LEAVE
- Score two points for each year of service to GBC since last sabbatical leave.
- Score points not exceeding 20 for the proposal's merit in terms of its immediate and practical
value in meeting the objectives of the college, with particular attention to its value in helping
the applicant perform his/her current duties.
- Score points not exceeding 15 for the proposal's merit in contributing to the personal
and professional growth of the person applying. Pay particular attention to the applicant's reasoning,
as each applicant may be expected to have individual definitions for both personal and
professional growth.
- Score points not exceeding 10 for the proposal's merit as a contribution or general social value.
For example, if the proposal includes a research or publishing project, evaluate the worth of that
project in the field in which it will be conducted. If the proposal outlines some project in
community service, evaluate the extent to which the community will benefit.
- Score points not exceeding 20 for the likelihood that the conditions of the proposal can be
met in the granted leave time. Pay particular attention to the applicant's own definitions
of the limits of the project. For example, an applicant proposing to do research and not
agree to publish findings immediately. An applicant proposing further formal study need not
finish a degree. Low points shold be assigned to those proposals which, in the estimation of
the evaluator, may not realistically be achieved in the granted leave time.
