On behalf of the students, faculty, administration, and staff at Great Basin College, I want to thank you for agreeing to serve on the Evaluation Committee for the April 23-25, 2003 full-scale visit. The College and local community members look forward to hosting you during your visit to Elko next month. We appreciate the time and commitment that you will be dedicating in the next month to learning about GBC.
GBC has provided access to quality academic programs and instruction at an affordable cost to the citizens of rural central and northeastern Nevada for over 35 years. This would not be possible without the community partnerships that have been forged over this time. The support from the local communities in the College’s 45,000 square mile service and participation on the various advisory boards have contributed significantly to student success.
The College is in transition both in physical appearance and offering select bachelor degree programs while preserving the core values and mission of a community college. As a result, the faculty, staff, and administration are working on challenges associated with distance learning technologies in order to maximize the effectiveness of interactive video classrooms. Also, faculty workload policies related to the development of online courses and offering of upper-division coursework is currently being reviewed both at the campus and state level.
By advancing the academic and professional endeavors of the rural communities and by providing access to quality certificate, associate, and baccalaureate programs, GBC’s mission of addressing workforce needs of the regional economy is enhanced. The core values of the community college have never been stronger. Moreover, the strengths that lie in the community illustrate the symbiotic relationship between Great Basin College and local community members.
Please let us know if we can assist you in anyway during your stay in Elko.
