| "As a Rangeland Management Specialist (SCEP) with the Bureau of Land
Management, I owe my career success to the dedicated individuals in
the
Great Basin College Agriculture Department. The Agriculture program
at
Great Basin College is an extremely beneficial program and allows
students
to reach their career goals and personal success through agriculture
education. Through earning two associate degrees from Great Basin
College,
I have been presented with many prospects to further my success by
utilizing
the knowledge I acquired from GBC as a reliable foundation. I was able
to
participate in hands-on learning, which was extremely advantageous.
The
opportunities to travel around Nevada, and several other states,
allowed me
to see agriculture from several different perspectives. Also, the GBC
Aggies Club was another way that students were given the chance to
become
more involved in agriculture. Although the Agriculture program is
relatively
small compared to larger universities, the quality of the education
that the
students receive at Great Basin College is outstanding. The advisers
and
professors were always willing to assist students as the need arose,
and
would do so with a smile. Overall, I believe that my time at Great
Basin
College was positive and gave me opportunities that few high education
institutions would be willing offer." |

| "The GBC Agriculture program has been extremely influential in my life.
The Ag Instructor, Tracy Shane, was personable and made an effort in
trying to make my class schedule convenient and a curriculum that would
be applicable to my life. I work on a ranch and the Ag classes I took
helped me more fully understand different concepts, such as; Livestock
reproduction, Agbusiness management, Animal Nutrition, and even range
management. What I liked the most about the classes was the hands on
experience. We preg checked and artificial inseminated cows with the
help of a vet. We also went on field trips to listen to different
speakers. A group of us went to Alberquerque, NM to a Society of Range
Management Seminar and learned what people have experimented on and are
discoverying ways to help improve the land. I also participated in Food
Marketing competition with my team in California where we received
second place. Overall, my experience at GBC has been a positive one and
I believe the Agriculture department has a lot to offer to any who are
interested in the field."
