GBC Alumni

President Curtis photographWelcome!

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the GBC Alumni page!

As a Great Basin College alumnus, I know you join me in taking pride in what your college offers: life-long enrichment through student-centered college education to rural Nevadans.

Few people know Nevada the way GBC graduates know Nevada. Whether you live in Battle Mountain, Elko, Ely, Pahrump, Winnemucca or in any one of a couple of dozen other communities across our 86,500 square mile service area, you’ve experienced a first rate education, delivered in the classroom, via interactive video or online.

In the short time I have been the President of GBC, I have developed an appreciation of the spectacular landscape of rural Nevada and all of the opportunities it has offer. I’m confident you share that appreciation. That is why I am reaching out to you with this alumni magazine.

Part of our mission is to provide life-long opportunities to our students. So, I want you to know that the network of friends and associates you have made as a student here can continue to be a benefit to you as you move through your career. By the same token, I strongly believe you will be able to provide guidance and support to current students who are just beginning their professional journey.

Three of our alumni, Margo Teague, Dan Mahlberg and Steve Houk, have volunteered to help me develop this organization. I know they will be eager to hear from you. We’ll also be interested in hearing about your own accomplishments so that we can include them here. If you have news you would like to share, or ideas of how we might move forward with this effort, please do not hesitate to contact us at alumni@gbcnv.edu.

Inside you will find feature stories on successful graduates like you, information on new and exciting activities at our campus and centers, and opportunities for you to participate in programs developed for our alumni. In this edition, you can also read about some of the terrific educational travel opportunities GBC provides, a variety of excellent art and cultural events, and a story on one of the talented members of the GBC faculty.

Thank you for your confidence in Great Basin College, and welcome to the new Great Basin College Alumni organization. I look forward to our future together.

Sincerely,

Dr. Mark A. Curtis - President
