The purpose of ACCUPLACER tests is to provide you with useful information about your academic skills in math, English, and reading. The results of the assessment, in conjunction with your academic background, goals, and interests, are used by academic advisors and counselors to determine your course selection.

Who Must Take the Test
Some English and mathematics courses at GBC require qualifying ACT or SAT scores or placement testing before enrollment. The Accuplacer Test is offered without charge for GBC students who have not taken the ACT or SAT.
For English: Placement in English 101 requires an ACT score of 21 or above in English, an SAT score of 555 or above, or an equivalent score on the GBC placement test. To enroll in English 102, you must complete English 101.
For Mathematics: Placement in mathematics courses up to math 096 requires an ACT score of 18 or above on the mathematics subsection or an SAT score of 500 or higher. For more information about mathematics requirements, please refer to the GBC General Catalog.
When and Where are the Tests Given
Tests can be taken at the Admissions Advising and Career Center in Berg Hall between the
hours of 8am to 3pm, Monday through Friday during the academic year. For summer hours
or more information, call 775.753.2168. The test is also offered at GBC's
Branch Campuses.
