Step 1: Determining the Faculty Role Models

In Step 1, each faculty member defines his or her activities, and each department summarizes those activities to formulate faculty roles in the department. Examples of roles are teaching and community service.

The following is the Evaluation Committee's letter to Department Chairs
with regard to beginning Step 1.
Step 1 is to be complete by October 31.

Dear Department Chairs:

The time is upon us to begin the process for developing a comprehensive evaluation system at Great Basin College. Members from the Evaluation Committee will be contacting you to arrange a time to meet with the members of your department. During the meeting, the first step of the process will be discussed in detail. The appropriate forms will be distributed at that time.

Prior to meeting with your department, we are asking that each Department Head review the process for Step 1.

Step 1: FORM 1A - In this first step faculty are asked to list each activity in which they individually engage when carrying out their various professional responsibilities. Once each faculty member has developed his or her individual list of activities, departments are requested to hold a meeting in which all individual data listed on FORM 1A by each faculty member is consolidated, summarized, synthesized and recorded on FORM 1B.

Our committee members will serve as facilitators at your department meetings as you synthesize the information for FORM 1B. Faculty role models could include the following: Teaching, Scholarly/Creative Activities, Institutional Service and Community Service. The enclosed forms are for your review. Additional forms will be distributed at the designated meeting for completing FORM 1B with Evaluation Committee support.

We are asking that FORM 1A and FORM 1B be completed by October 26 th. Remember that your designated Evaluation Committee member will assist you with the time-line and the completion of Step 1.
