Getting Started

Beginning with 2010-11 academic year every student will need to complete a new Master Promissory Note and Entrance Loan Counseling.

• Check your GBC Financial Aid Offer Letter to see what type of loan(s) and the amount(s) you are eligible for at the MyGBC Self-Service Center. The following codes on your Offer Letter designate:
  
  
  • DSUB = Direct Subsidized Loan
  • DUNS = Direct Unsubsidized Loan
  • PLUS = Direct Parent Loan
    
    
• Print out the Direct Loan Instructions, Statement of Understanding, and Direct Loan Request Form.
  
  
• Check your total student loan indebtedness at National Student Loan Database System.
  
  
  • Requires your 4-digit electronic signature PIN number. (see below to obtain a PIN#)
    
    
• Must have your 4-digit electronic signature PIN number that was used to electronically sign the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for your loan application. Forgot your PIN number? Please visit the Federal Student Aid PIN website: www.pin.ed.gov.

Please note:

• Your PIN number can be displayed instantly;
• Apply for PIN number (will take 1-3 business days). You will receive an e-mail when you PIN information has been verified;
• You can also “Check your PIN status”.

• You must have the following to complete this Direct Student Loan application online:

• PIN number (FAFSA)
• Social Security Number
• Drivers’ License Number
• Valid e-mail address
• Physical Address (If you have a PO Box)
• Complete addresses and phone numbers for two (2) references. First reference must be a parent or guardian. Second reference must be someone who has known you for 3+ years.
