Special Collections at GBC Library

American Indian Collection

The American Indian collection is housed on the main floor of the library. This growing collection
consists mainly of books. The Great Basin Indian Archives is dedicated to providing
students and researchers easy access to primary and digital information that chronicles the history
and heritage of the Great Basin Indian peoples.

Basque Collection

Located on the main floor of the library, this collection is comprised of books in Basque, French,
Spainsh and English on the subject of the Basque peoples. A much more extensive collection resides
in the Basque Studies Library at UNR.

Government Documents

The GBC Library became a Federal Depository for Government Documents in 1992. We receive about 19%
of distributed information. Publications are available from Congress as well as a variety of government
departments, such as Agriculture, Census, Defense, Education, Health & Human Services, Interior,
Justice and Labor.

GBC Government Documents are available for use to Great Basin College students, faculty, staff and members
of the greater community. Information is available in a number of different formats, including book, journal,
pamphlet, brochures, video, CD and DVD, maps and microfiche. Many documents are available full text online
by searching our catalog, or through the Government Printing Office. If we do not have a particular document, it may
be borrowed from another library through the interlibrary loan program. The University of Nevada, Reno
is the regional Federal Depository and receives almost 100% of government distribution.

Foundation Grants Center

The Great Basin College Library became a member of the Foundation Center Cooperating
Collections Network in December 2002. The collection provides resources for grant seekers throughout Northeastern
Nevada. The Foundation Center is headquartered in New York with field offices in Atlanta, Cleveland, San Francisco
and Washington, D.C. Founded in 1956, the Center is the nation's leading authority on philanthropy and is dedicated
to serving grant seekers, grant makers, researchers, policymakers, the media and the general public. Their resources
include print directories, electronic databases, classes and courses. The Foundation Center's mission is to support
and improve philanthropy by promoting public understanding of the field and helping grant seekers succeed.

Reference Librarian Karen Dannehl supervises the collection and coordinates training
and public awareness activities. Current holdings may be found in the Foundation Collection on the Main floor of the
library. Access to FC Search electronic search software is found on all computers on the main floor of the library.
Training sessions are held several times a year and are announced through local media as well as through this page.

on the subject ot Nevada and Elko County.

Partners Allied for Community Excellence - (PACE)
