The MAGIC program includes four meetings with the parents/guardians
of teens in our program. The initial meeting explains the program to
you and your teens and obtains permission for the teen to participate.
This meeting is conducted by a MAGIC youth faciltator. During this meeting
the facilitator will explain the MAGIC program to your teen and will
also answer any questions you may have. MAGIC is a national
award-winning
program that helps teens increase their self esteem, improve attitudes
towards peers and school, and increase communication with parents and
other adults. Parents of MAGIC teens consistently report improvement
in their teen's behavior and report an increase in their own knowledge
of parenting techniques. A study conducted one year after involvement
in the program indicates that skills learned in MAGIC are helping youth
stay out of trouble.
The program will teach your teen and others in
the group how to make wise decisions, accept responsibility for their
actions
and communicate
effectively. This program also offers additional support to your family.
However, as a parent, you are the most influential person in your teen's
life.
