Barrick Pledges $300,000 Towards New GBC Building

Great Basin College (GBC) has made significant progress on raising a $2 million match to a $5 million pledge from the William N. Pennington Foundation announced in Winnemucca last year.

Barrick has pledged $300,000 over the next three years towards the Health Sciences and Technology Building that will be constructed at the GBC Winnemucca Center location.

Formal pledges, and contributions already received, now total more than $1.4 million.

“Barrick has once again shown their support of rural Nevada at large, Higher Education in general and GBC specifically. Their partnership in this project, and in other initiatives like our Veterans Resource Center and the Cisco Network Academy demonstrates their commitment to long-term sustainability and high quality of life in the communities where they operate,” said GBC Foundation Director Matt McCarty.

The Barrick pledge, combined with a 3-year, $1 million pledge from Humboldt General Hospital, represents 65 percent of the total funds needed. It is anticipated that an additional major donor will be announced soon.

Fundraising continues for the project and anyone interested in investing in the building can contact the GBC Foundation at 775-753-2260.
