AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT
Comprehensive information regarding access to the institution and provisions for students with special needs is provided in the general course catalogue and through the Institutional ADA Officer Julie Byrnes (775.753.2271). It is the policy and practice of Great Basin College to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and state and local requirements regarding students with disabilities. Students with needs should directly contact Julie Byrnes wherein an assessment of the student will be made and resonable accommodations (if any) will be negotiated with the instructor. Faculty should note that there are reasonable limitations to the accommodations which are to be provided; i.e., the accommodations cannot alter the program or disrupt the nature of the course, or be unduly burdensome either financially or administratively.
Instructors including ADA statements in their syllabi should simply state the following for validity:
GBC supports providing equal access for students with disabilities. An advisor is available to disucss appropriate accommodations with students. Please contact the ADA Officer (Julie Byrnes) in Elko at 775.753.2271 at your earliest convenience to request timely and appropriate accommodations.
