Browser Help
(WebCT version 6)

The term "browser" refers to the program you use to surf the Web. Usually this is:

Internet Explorer Icon Internet Explorer or     Firefox Icon Firefox or     Netscape Icon Netscape or Safari (Macintosh)

Use the Check Browser function in WebCampus to ensure your browser is set up properly. It will also tell you the name and version of the browser you are using.

Additional Instructions for LiveNet Classes

If you are taking a LiveNet course, you will need to run the Setup Wizard several days before your class begins. This will install QuickTime and Java2 which are required and mandatory for LiveNet courses.

Once you log into WebCampus and have entered your classroom, you will need to click on the LiveNet icon.

If you experience problems with WebCampus, try the following:

  • Close and reopen your browser and log in to WebCampus again.
  • Reset your browser’s settings and security settings to save troubleshooting steps (see left column below).
  • Removing and reinstalling Java to version 5.0 update 7 (also referred to as 1.5.7) solves the majority of issues in WebCampus (see right column below).
  • Try downloading and installing a different browser (a list of supported browsers can be found here).

Settings in Internet Explorer (IE)

  1. If you aren’t using IE version 7, you may want to update by going to http://www.windowsupdate.com
  2. In the Internet Explorer window, click Tools and then Internet Options
  1. A new window opens. Click the Security tab at the top. Towards the bottom of the Security window, slide the Security Level bar down to Medium.
  2. Click the Advanced tab at the top of the window. On the Advanced window, click the Restore Advanced Settings button.

Note: If other options haven't solved the issue you are having, you can click the Reset button on the Advanced window. After you do, you may want to go to the General tab and reset your home page to what it was before (e.g. http://www.yahoo.com).
  3. Click Apply at the bottom of the window, then OK.
  4. Close the browser and open it again.
Replacing Java
  1. Click the Start button at lower left of your screen and choose Control Panel on the menu.
  2. On the Control Panel window, click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. The list may take a minute or two to populate, but then should come up in alphabetical order. Scroll down and look for entries of Java or J2SE. Click on them individually, then click the Remove button next to them that comes up.
  4. Click here to download and install Java.
  5. If you experience any problems, call the Helpdesk at 753-2167 for assistance.
