Teresa Howell, Tour Guide |
"The Oregon Shakespeare Festival may change your life, or at least it did for one participant. He found the experience so romantic that he took his girlfriend to Ashland exactly one year later, and proposed to her "on the bricks."
Even without a proposal, a visit to Ashland is a memorable experience. We will be staying at the Ashland Hostel, which is within a couple blocks of the theaters, quaint little shops, and excellent dining, which includes a handful of pubs for that genuine Elizabethan experience. The hostel features shared dorm-style rooms and shared bathrooms, but it's likely that you'll be sharing with members of our group.. Not only do the shared quarters keep expenses down, they encourage bonding with other members of the group.
There will be a couple of double-occupancy rooms available; please let Teresa Howell(teresah@gwmail.gbcnv.edu) or Angie deBraga, at GBC continuing education (775-753-2231 or angied@gwmail.gbcnv.edu) know if you and a partner would like one of those rooms. Whether you choose a dorm-style room or a more private arrangement, you will need to bring a towel, pillow and sleeping bag.
Although we will enjoy the food, the shopping, and the ambiance, the quality of the performances is the real attraction. We can expect excellent acting, innovative directing, and meticulously crafted costumes. During our backstage tour, we'll see how much goes into bringing us such excellent productions.
I teach the Shakespeare class at Great Basin College. This will be my second time leading a tour to Ashland, but it is my third visit. I've also attended the Tahoe Shakespeare Festival, and have had the opportunity to see quite a few other productions of Shakespeare's plays. Although almost all of the productions I've seen were of good quality, those I've seen at Ashland are unequivocally my favorites. Shakespeare is what they do at Ashland, and they do it well."
