Student Absences to Observe Religious Holidays

Students who miss class, quizzes, examinations, labs, or other required coursework due to the observance of a religious holiday will be given an opportunity during that semester to make up the missed work. This accommodation applies only to absences related to religious observances.

It is the student’s responsibility to notify the instructor no later than the last day of late registration of their intent to observe religious holidays that do not fall on state holidays or scheduled class recess periods.

This policy does not apply if offering an alternate time for a test or examination would create an undue hardship for the instructor or the college that could not reasonably have been avoided.

If a student provides timely notice and the instructor does not allow an opportunity to make up the missed work, the student may appeal the decision to the Vice President for Academic Affairs for final determination.
