Tony Furtado in concert July 7 at GBC

Tony Furtado in concert July 7 at GBC graphic.Americana singer, songwriter and banjo virtuoso Tony Furtado is set to play Elko Friday, July 7 at the GBC Reynolds Amphitheater. The Summer Music concert is being brought to the community through a partnership between Great Basin College, Red Lion Hotel Casino and Ruby Mountain Brewing Co.

Admission is $15. Tickets will be available for purchase at the event. The show will begin at 7 p.m.

Earlier this year, Furtado celebrated the release of his latest album: Cider House Sessions – Live at Reverend Nat’s, Furtado’s live acoustic release that draws from all phases and periods of his career.

Furtado last played a show in Elko in 2015, the same year he released his album: The Bell, which won both the Album of Year and Acoustic Rock Album of the Year awards in 2015 from the Indie Acoustic Project Awards.

“Tony is an amazing musician and songwriter. His style is one a lot of Elko people appreciate,” said John Rice, GBC theatre instructor. “It's Americana music, kind of folk, kind of blues, kind of rock. I think it's a lot like the Nevada landscape. Wide open and inspiring.”

GBC hopes Furtado’s diverse style will be a crowd pleaser for both students and community members with varying musical tastes.

“In the past we've brought diverse musical performers to GBC. The objective is to restart that opportunity for our students and for the community,” said Rice. “When we bring people like Tony Furtado and singer songwriters like Stephanie Schniederman, Dirty Martini, Curtis Stigers and others, we fill a gap in the community cultural scene. It's an important part of the college's mission. We're looking forward to more of it.”
