The Great Basin College Foundation is excited to introduce Beats and Bites, a new community-centered event taking place this summer on the GBC campus in Elko. This event will feature a rotating line up of local food trucks, music, raffle prizes, and other family-friendly activities. Scheduled for the Fourth Thursday of each month from June through September the community is invited to join us on campus from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. Beats and Bites will be held on Chilton Circle. Students, staff, and the public are welcome to purchase food, picnic in the grass, and enjoy our gorgeous campus.

"Our campus is designed to be a place for the community to gather," said Hillary Baker, Associate Director of Development for the Great Basin College Foundation. "We are excited to invite everyone out to enjoy the warm summer weather, support local businesses, and utilize this beautiful space."

The first event will be held on June 27th with music by DJ Arturo Torres. There will be both sweet and savory food offerings including ice cream from Dole Twist, donuts from Nuts Under a Buck, hot dogs from Ruby Mountain Hot Dogs, and delicious Mexican snacks from Botanas El Grillo. The June event will also feature a raffle for tickets to the upcoming Silver State Stampede and other prizes.

"Each event will have a little bit of a different feel," said Baker. "In July and August we will have live music from local musicians and games targeted towards families. We can’t wait for our events and hope you’ll take the time to join us!"

The Beats and Bites series will continue throughout the summer featuring a changing line up of food trucks and live music, games, a scavenger hunt, and prizes.

Capital Campaign

Support the welding lab expansion animation with Welder and Support text.We are embarking on a new Capital Campaign to help students fill the workforce need for more skilled welders in rural Nevada. Great Basin College approached the Nevada System of Higher Education for support to renovate and expand the current welding lab on the Elko campus. On June 4, 2021, Bill AB492 was signed, which authorizes and provides funding for certain projects of capital improvement including this one! The estimated cost of this public works project is $6.4 million dollars. Of that estimate, Great Basin College has committed a match of $600,000. When complete the additional 4,500 square feet will increase student capacity from 17 to 40.

You can support this project by becoming a sponsor. Find out more about the campaign!
