New funding opportunities are opened up on January 1st for the subsequent academic year. Applications for all opportunities are accepted until a date announced each spring. For the 2008-2009 academic year, priority applications close March 15, 2008. After the priority application deadline, you may still apply for whatever funds remain available.
Step 1: Obtain a federal PIN number at www.pin.ed.gov. Keep it private. It will allow you to sign forms submitted on the web.
Step 2: Carefully fill out and submit a FAFSA form on the web at www.fafsa.ed.gov. You will need the code for GBC; it is 006977. There is no charge for this service.
Step 3: Within two to three weeks, you should receive response from
your application. It will ask you to log into Web-Reg to
determine whether an award has been offered or additional information is needed.
You will be instructed to read the Financial
Aid Handbook and complete the
online Quiz. You may also be asked to complete one or more forms available
online.
Step 4: Loans and grants for dependent students under the age of 24 are limited. If increased amounts are desired, parents must apply for a Plus Loan.*
Step 5: Before loan funds are dispersed, loan applicants will be required to complete an Entrance Interview.* Generally this occurs in August. If this is required, you will receive a mailed notification.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are the recipient of a student loan and you enroll in less than six credits in a semester, you will be required to complete an Exit Interview*.

*Plus Loans and Entrance and Exit Interviews all require registering at the federal SallyMae website.
