Transform Your Theater Experience!

The Great Basin College Theatre program is the performing arts arm of the Fine Arts and Humanities department. GBCT produces several shows a year. Since 1996, the company has offered a diverse plate of theater in a variety of genres and styles providing hands on technical and performance stage experiences for students, faculty, and staff. Discover YOUR talents with the Great Basin College Theatre Program!

The mission of the Fine Arts and Humanities Department is providing culturally rich, engaging programs in the humanities, fine arts, performing arts, music, and foreign languages throughout the GBC service area; to provide general education offerings for certificate, associate degree, and baccalaureate students; and to enrich lifetime learners in the communities at large.

GBCT productions add an important voice to the cultural scene in northeastern Nevada by providing high quality theatre to the city of Elko and the surrounding areas. GBCT has a long history of collaborating with other artistic groups in the community including the Silver Stage Players, the Bard in the Yard Project, and the Elko Overland Stage Theater Company Our shows provide opportunities for artists to develop their craft, entertain our audiences, and spark critical thinking.

GBCT has a rich tradition of collaborating with guest artists in all the theatrical disciplines including acting, lighting, costume, and set design, and directing among others. Guest artists provide our students with real-world, professional insights to the theater art form. Through these experiences, student-artists are encouraged to be leaders in the evolving theater landscape both locally and globally.

Artistic expression is integral to the human experience. Participation in the performance arts engages the mind, body, and spirit. Skills acquired by participating in the performance arts are completely transferrable to other disciplines where critical thinking, oral and written communication, team collaboration, adaptability, and creativity are emphasized. The study of theatre is the study of culture. The study of theater is the study of the human condition, of emotions, of thought, of experiences. Join us and become one of life's storytellers!

"Theater publicly reveals the human condition through appealing to both intellect and emotion."
- Hugh Hardy
