Program Licensures
Some academic programs at Great Basin College (GBC) lead to professional licensure or certification. Licensure requirements are set by individual states and may vary depending on where you live or plan to work. GBC is required to provide accurate licensure-related information to out-of-state students so you can make informed decisions about your education and career goals.
Programs That May Lead to Professional Licensure
Land Surveying
GBC has not determined whether its Land Surveying program meets licensure requirements in all other U.S. states or territories.
Students should review licensing requirements for their state through the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).
Human Services Certificate (Addiction Counseling)
GBC has not determined whether its Addiction Counseling Certificate meets licensure requirements in all other U.S. states or territories.
Students should consult state-specific requirements through addiction-dounselors.com, a state-by-state guide to addiction counseling licensure.
EMT / Paramedic
GBC’s EMT and Paramedic programs qualify graduates to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exam, which is recognized nationwide.
However, states may impose additional licensure requirements beyond the national exam. Students should review licensing requirements for their state.

Social Work
GBC’s Social Work program is a 3+1 program, which means:
- Students complete coursework at GBC
- Students must then transfer to the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) to complete the degree
Because GBC does not award the final degree:
- Licensure disclosures for Social Work are provided by UNR
- Students should consult UNR for licensure information in other states
How GBC Determines Your Location
To provide the most accurate licensure information:
-
GBC uses the most recent address information provided by each student
-
Students are responsible for keeping their address current
-
Address updates should be made as soon as changes occur
Your physical location may affect whether a program meets licensure requirements in your state.
General Licensure Disclosure
-
All GBC programs meet licensure requirements in the state of Nevada
-
Other states may have additional or different requirements
-
While GBC strives to provide accurate information, the College may not be able to determine licensure eligibility in every U.S. state or territory
Students are strongly encouraged to review licensure requirements directly with the appropriate state licensing board.
Ongoing Updates and Student Support
Licensure information is updated as needed. Current and prospective students will be provided with information specific to their location as quickly and accurately as possible.
For program-specific licensure questions, students should contact:
- Their academic advisor, or
- The department chair for their program of study
