Academic Success Center (ASC)
Welcome to the ASC!

We offer instructional support for students in math, English/writing, science, and foreign languages. Tutors in these disciplines will provide extra support and guidance on an assignment or paper. All tutoring services are free to GBC students.

It is easy to get help. Simply call to make an appointment (see contact information at right). Students are also welcome to walk in for help, but there may be a wait if we are busy with appointments.

You can also submit your papers and receive tutor comments via email. To do so:

  • Create your paper in Microsoft Word or other word processing software.
  • Save as an RTF formatted document (if you need help with this, phone the ASC).
  • Email as an attachment to gbctutor.elko@gwmail.gbcnv.edu.

In addition, the ASC provides online tutor services through SmarThinking (limit 120 minutes per student per semester). Call the ASC to get the necessary passwords to set up your personal account.

The Academic Success Center maintains a 20-station computer lab for word processing and Internet research. All GBC students are welcome to use this computer lab. No appointment is necessary to use the computers (between May 16 and August 22, phonefir available hours).
