The Mission of the Department of Environmental Health, Safety and Security at Great Basin College is to provide a safe and secure environment for all staff, faculty, students and visitors on all the college’s campuses and centers.
The department is continually working to keep Great Basin College campuses a safe place for all, while striving to encourage active participation in college life and development of individual awareness of personal safety for all members of the college community. The goal of the Department of Environmental Health, Safety and Security is to provide an educational experience free from fear of personal harm or harassment that is safe and where all members of the college community are respectful of each other.

The Department encourages all faculty, staff and students to be active in helping to keep the Great Basin College centers safe places for all. Be aware of your surroundings, use common sense precautions for your personal safety, lock your vehicle when parking and when possible at night walk with friends. If you observe any suspicious or unusual activity please contact Security or the Campus Director so the situation can be investigated. If you see suspected criminal activities report it immediately. The department is responsible for providing security on the Great Basin College Elko campus during normal class hours and may be contacted at 775.934.4923.
Behavioral Intervention Team
The Great Basin College behavioral intervention team consists of members from both academic and administrative departments in an effort to provide the broadest base of knowledge and skills designed to help students and staff during difficult times. The team has established procedures in place to ensure open communication between departments while maintaining the confidentiality necessary to respond quickly in a crisis situation. If you believe you need the assistance of the team please contact the Assistant to the Vice President for Student Services at 775.753.2184 and she will arrange for the appropriate team member to respond.
