Veteran students and students who are active military and declared as degree-seeking are encouraged to submit a copy of their military transcripts, their DD 214, and official records of approved examinations to determine if credit may be awarded for military service and/or training. The Admissions and Records Office will automatically review these submissions as long as the student has applied to Great Basin College and declared a major. Credit will only be awarded for courses that are applicable to the declared major, but new transcript evaluations can occur when students change their major.

  • Effective Spring 2019, Boot Camp Credit will be available to all applicants who are current active duty military members or were honorably discharged and completed more than one year of active duty. Active duty papers or DD-214 and official military transcripts must be submitted to the Admissions and Records office. 15 boot camp credits will be automatically granted after the required documents has been reviewed and verified. The credit breakdown is listed below in the Military Credit from Joint Services Transcript and Community College of the Air Force sections.
  • The Community College of the Air Force and Air University are regionally accredited colleges; credits from these colleges are granted with no special process required.
  • Dantes Subject Standardized Tests (DSST) will be granted as indicated on the DSST Chart. For courses not on the chart, American Council on Education (ACE) recommendations will be considered.
  • Experience gained from military schools and other forms of military training will be evaluated using American Council on Education (ACE) and Joint Services Transcript (JST) recommendations in conjunction with other criteria required by non-traditional policies. This includes consultation with academic faculty and deans. A maximum of 15 credits from non-traditional sources, such as military training, can be applied to a GBC degree.
  • Fall 2017, GBC began posting examples of accepted JST military credit. Below is a chart of military credit accepted since August 2017.
