Adult Basic Education

Our Adult Basic Education (ABE) program serves both native English speaking and Transition ESL students who need to improve Basic English and math skills before enrolling in a High School Equivalency (HSE) or College class. These skills also help students succeed in the workplace and day to day life.

The ABE program at GBC will help you:

• Improve basic reading, writing and math skills
• Feel safe and comfortable while improving your skills
• Build self-confidence, so that you can fully participate in your community while reaching your personal goals
• Enhance job skills so that you can obtain a job or receive a promotion
• Reach academic goals, such as entering HSE and College classes

Adult Basic Education classes are offered in the following communities of our service area:

The Adult Learning Center building in Elko also houses the Adult High School Diploma Program, which the college supports in cooperation with the Elko County School District.
