Program Overview

The Diesel Technology program prepares graduates with the skills needed to maintain, diagnose, and repair a wide range of equipment. Training includes mine-related equipment such as surface, underground, and exploration machinery, as well as over-the-road trucks and heavy equipment.

Students receive hands-on instruction using industry-standard tools and equipment, ensuring they are workforce-ready upon completion.

Program Mission

The mission of the Diesel Technology program is to prepare students for successful careers in the diesel and heavy equipment industries by providing comprehensive technical training and industry-recognized certifications.

Students can earn an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree along with up to 14 industry certifications embedded directly into the curriculum at no additional cost. These certifications are issued through NC3, and students receive digital badges to enhance their professional portfolios.

 

 

Career Pathways

Graduates may pursue careers in a variety of industries, including:

  • Diesel and heavy equipment repair

  • Over-the-road trucking maintenance

  • Mining and exploration equipment maintenance

  • Dealership and factory field service

  • Component rebuilding and diagnostics

  • Parts supply and warehousing

  • Equipment sales and customer relations

 

 


Learning Outcomes

Students who complete the program will be able to:

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines and heavy equipment

  • Read and interpret schematics and technical manuals

  • Apply electrical and electronic theory to troubleshooting

  • Perform hydraulic system repair and maintenance

  • Use computer-based diagnostic tools

  • Demonstrate effective communication and workplace skills

  • Apply math and problem-solving skills in technical environments

  • 609 Refrigerant handling certification

Steps to Apply

  1. Complete the GBC Application for Admission.

  2. Students are encouraged to apply for the GBC CTE/MTC Scholarship Application page. Application deadline for Fall 2026: March 15.

Through Kubota, technicians will have the opportunity to work with sponsoring dealerships and participate in internship programs. In addition, you'll gain skills in hydraulics, electrical operations, power trains, air conditioning and precision planting technologies.
