$50,000 Gift from Jarbidge Community Association Creates Two Endowed Scholarships at Great Basin College

Gift honors the Armstrong Family and will fund scholarships for Industrial Trades and Health Sciences students.

A photo of the jarbidge Community Center.ELKO, Nev. – The Jarbidge Community Association has made a generous contribution to the Great Basin College Foundation, establishing two $25,000 endowed scholarships that will provide long-term financial support for students. The endowments will create scholarships for students pursuing careers in Industrial Trades and non-nursing Health Sciences programs such as Behavioral Health, Paramedic, Respiratory Therapy, and Medical Imaging. These are programs within Health Sciences that have historically received less scholarship support than Nursing but also play a vital role in addressing critical healthcare workforce gaps in Elko County.

The gift was made possible through funds entrusted to the Association from the estate of the Armstrong family, whose enduring generosity has had a significant and lasting impact on the Jarbidge community.

"The Association has benefited greatly from the generosity of the Armstrong family, and we want to uphold their legacy and pay it forward to others in Elko County," said Jackie Gilliam, secretary of the Jarbidge Community Association Board. "We feel Great Basin College is a tremendous asset to our region and supporting students through scholarships is one of the most meaningful ways we can strengthen our rural communities."

Through these scholarship funds, the Jarbidge Community Association ensures that students in Elko County have access to education and training that lead to rewarding, high-demand careers.

"We are deeply grateful to the Jarbidge Community Association for their incredible generosity," said Leslie Maple, executive director of Institutional Advancement for Great Basin College. "Because the principal investment is preserved with an endowed scholarship, these funds will provide life-changing educational opportunities year after year, creating a lasting impact on students and community workforce needs well into the future."

Individuals or organizations interested in contributing to the Jarbidge Community Association Endowments or establishing their own named scholarship are encouraged to contact the Great Basin College Foundation at GBCF@gbcnv.edu or by phone at 775-327-2382.
